Short Story Contest Rules and Regulations

Any unoriginal and published works will be disqualified from the contest.

All personal information, such as address, telephone number, email address, and date of birth, is collected solely for the purposes of administering this competition and shall not be used for any other purpose without consent. By providing this information, you consent to it being used for the stated purposes.

There are no fees or costs to the writer for the publication of the anthology. Writers will not receive royalties if their submission is selected for the anthology, but will receive comprehensive marketing and promotions for their story in association with the anthology.

Rights

Candidates pledge that their submission is an original work and that they own all rights to the submission. DigiWriting and the Anthology Publisher are not responsible for any breach of this pledge. In submitting their work, each participant grants DigiWriting and the Anthology Publisher the following licenses free of charge:

  • The right to reproduce and publish the work submitted.
  • The right to edit, abridge, or excerpt the work for the purposes of publication or promotions.

Licenses granted to DigiWriting and the Anthology Publisher are active worldwide and are exclusive only until the date of anthology publication. Finalists and winners agree to have their name and/or picture used for promotional purposes related to this competition, free of charge.

Judging

Works are judged anonymously on the basis of the author’s use of language, originality of subject, and writing style. Submissions are processed by a two-tiered system of readers and judges.

The submissions are first read by a group of qualified editors and writers. Selected submissions will then be developed into a short list of 20 stories that will be published into an anthology. The short list is forwarded to a panel of judges comprised of published authors, literary critics, and academics. The panel will then select 3 winners to receive prizes.

Readers and judges are selected by the Anthology Publisher.

All decisions by the readers and the panel are final. Readers’ and judges’ names are confidential until the end of the competition to ensure the judging process remains blind.

Submission Checklist:

All submissions must be:

  • Submitted with the entry form
  • 1500-2,500 typed words in English
  • Double Spaced
  • In letter format (8½ by 11)
  • Submitted anonymously to ensure the contest remains blind. Author name must not be included anywhere within the Short Story.

Restrictions:

  • All submissions are final; changes or substitutions are not permitted.
  • Works will not be returned and editorial comments will not be given, with the exception for selected winners.
