Dynamic Literary Festival comes to Stratford, Ontario this October
Mark your literary calendars for October 22 and 23, 2016, as award-winning international and Canadian authors and emerging Canadian and local writers come to Stratford for a two-day writers festival. From Giller Prize nominee Kim Echlin, to RBC Taylor Prize winner Plum Johnson, to Lambda Literary Award winner Farzana Doctor, there are a variety of readings and panel discussions that will take place. We’ve also partnered with LitOnTour to bring you an exciting event with Dionne Brand, Michael Winter, and Joseph Kertes, moderated by Globe and Mail Books Editor Mark Medley, along with much more!
A Fusion of Literature and the Arts
While we are celebrating our shared passion for books, writing, and reading, we are also celebrating all aspects of literature and the arts to make this one of the most dramatic writers festivals in Canada. Our unique programming offers an intersection of literature and the arts, from actors reading along with authors and literary musical performances, to interactive workshops and literary brunches. For example, you can enjoy the culinary arts during a two-course brunch upstairs at the Revival House while listening to a reading by Giller Prize nominee Kim Echlin. Echlin fuses music and literature in her latest book, Under the Visible Life, and she will perform this reading with jazz pianist Paul Shilton.
Stratford’s Literary Community
While Stratford is known as Canada’s home to the Bard and the Stratford Theatre Festival, there is also a vibrant literary community that extends beyond playwrights and poets. Stratford has also been home to award-winning Canadian authors from Timothy Findley to Jane Urquaardt. While you’re here, take the time to explore and see why Stratford inspires such creativity, from strolling the acres of parks and gardens along the Avon River, to sitting in cafes and restaurants, to finding inspiration in art galleries.
