From a boundary-defying new Writers Festival to a number of Free Little Library locations, and many a bookstore in between, there are plenty of ways to immerse oneself in and celebrate the literary arts in Stratford.

Stratford Writers Festival

Featuring actor readings, musical literary performances, interactive workshops, and inspiring talks, the Stratford Writers Festival is undoubtedly one of the most dramatic writers festivals in Canada.

Young Adult Stratford Writers Festival

Featuring school visits, literary performances, interactive workshops, and inspiring talks, the Young Adult Stratford Writers Festival features some of Canada’s top middle grade and young adult writers.

Stratford Public Library

The library is a vibrant community hub for book lovers and a favourite destination for innovative and interactive programs.

Stratford Public Library Foundation

The Stratford Public Library Foundation raises funds to assist the Stratford Public Library Board in the delivery of its programs. Currently the Foundation has initiated two projects: an endowment fund and a service program, Public Library on Wheels (PLOW).

Fanfare Books

Stratford’s independent bookstore since 1967, Fanfare Books is located on the main street in Stratford’s downtown core (92 Ontario Street).

Book Stage

Located across from the Studio Theatre in downtown Stratford, Book Stage carries fine used, rare, and antiquarian books (126 Waterloo St. S.).


Part of the Indigo chain, Coles is located in the Festival Marketplace (1067 Ontario Street).

Fundamentals Books & Toys

For 25 years, Fundamentals has carried “real Books for real kids,” from toddlers to sophisticated teens (52 Ontario Street).

The Gospel Lighthouse 

The Gospel Lighthouse is a group of 11 Christian bookstores across Southern Ontario (36 Ontario Street).

The Wee Book & Photo Shop

Tucked in behind a courtyard on York St., the Wee Book & Photo Shop is a book and photography studio (15 York Street).
