Author & VR Expert Provides a Grizzly Glimpse into our Future
Over the past year, our team has had the pleasure of working with Blue Moon Publishers on the speculative young adult Nirvana series. Along with this amazing opportunity, our book marketing experts were tasked with managing the publicity of another expert – author J.R. Stewart. With the first book, Nirvana, available for purchase on November 10th, perhaps it’s time we finally ask ourselves an important question – who is J.R. Stewart?!
Over the past several months, our book marketing experts have been (quite masterfully) kept in the dark regarding the author’s true identity. All we know is that J.R. Stewart has worked on many corporate projects throughout a prolific IT academic and consulting career, and is involved with many confidential virtual reality projects. After working on advanced “VR” technologies for over a decade, J.R. grew concerned about the implications of this work, and the possible social and psychological effects that it may have on its users.
Considering the author’s background, it’s easy to understand why J.R. has decided to write the Nirvana series. We have little doubt that, while speculative and fictitious by design, this series is J.R’s warning to us all. What mind-bending technology is being developed behind the scenes? Will our next great battles be fought in a virtual world? Will the continued decline of bees have the same drastic impact as seen in the book? Will the interests of power hungry governments replace the common good?
We have these questions on our minds and, after reading countless Nirvana book reviews, we know that others are thinking about these potentially earth-shattering issues as well (and telling their friends about this awesome series!). Here’s what some reviewers are saying:
“If you enjoy futuristic what-if books like The Hunger Games or The Matrix, give this series a read.”
– Victoria Harvey, Ivy’s Ecclectic Reviews
“Intriguing meld of virtual reality, species extinction, and corporate evil.”
– Wendy Stephens, Director, United States Board on Books for Young People
“The story line is intriguing in that it hooks you from the beginning and pulls you along for a wonderful science fiction ride. It is unlike any of the others in the Y/A dystopian S/F genre.”
– Shannon L Gonzalez, Literarily Illumined
So, with that being said, are you ready to believe what you feel in Nirvana?
When the real world is emptied of all that you love, how can you keep yourself from dependence on the virtual?
Animal activist and punk rock star Larissa Kenders lives in a dystopian world where the real and the virtual intermingle. After the disappearance of her soulmate, Andrew, Kenders finds solace by escaping to Nirvana, a virtual world controlled by Hexagon. In Nirvana, anyone’s deepest desires may be realized – even visits with Andrew.
Although Kenders knows that this version of Andrew is virtual, when he asks for her assistance revealing Hexagon’s dark secret, she cannot help but comply. Soon after, Kenders and her closest allies find themselves in a battle with Hexagon, the very institution they have been taught to trust. After uncovering much more than she expected, Kenders’ biggest challenge is determining what is real – and what is virtual.
Nirvana is a fast-paced, page-turning young adult novel combining elements of science fiction, mystery, and romance. Part of a trilogy, this book introduces readers to a young woman who refuses to give up on the man she loves, even if it means taking on an entire government to do so.
Will you be investing in virtual reality technology?
